Federal Criminal Defense for Louisiana

Federal criminal law is complex and at times convoluted. Federal criminal cases are often more time-intensive and intricate than state court cases, leaving those involved confused about where to turn for help. Businesses and individuals trying to navigate these issues should reach out to experienced counsel as soon as they arise. Weixler Law LLC accepts cases in the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana.

Each phase of a federal case is critically important.

Investigation

Receiving a phone call or target letter from federal authorities can be a nerve-racking moment. No need to panic. Competent counsel can help you determine what is going on and how best to respond.

Grand Jury Subpoenas

If you receive a grand jury subpoena, you must determine how to respond, but no need to do so alone. Contact an attorney to help.

Indictment

Facing federal criminal charges is not a walk in the park. An indictment means the federal government, with all its resources, is charging you with a crime. Ideally, you will have started working with an attorney before an indictment. If not, it’s not too late.

Motions and Discovery

The importance of this phase cannot be overstated. The federal government often prosecutes its cases using cooperating witnesses, hours of video and audio recordings, and/or thousands (and even millions) of pages of documents. Careful consideration and use of these materials is integral to your defense. Opportunities to resolve your case, for instance with a plea agreement, often arise here.

Trial

Trial is your opportunity to put the federal government’s evidence to the test. It takes thorough and strategic preparation to do this effectively, and an advocate who can make your case to a jury.

Sentencing

If you agree to plead guilty or if you’re found guilty at trial, the advocacy is not finished. Many federal crimes have a wide range of sentencing options, and you will need someone who understands the hyper-technical federal sentencing guidelines to assist you in making your best case.
