Former WL Client Receives Honorary Law Degree; WL and Team Obtained Exoneration in 2021

Last weekend was truly special as my friend and former client, Calvin Duncan, received an honorary degree and delivered the commencement address at the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law graduation ceremony. Calvin's journey is nothing short of remarkable - serving almost 30 years in Louisiana state prison for a crime he did not commit. During his time inside, Calvin immersed himself in understanding the intricacies of the criminal law system, eventually becoming a guiding light for his fellow inmates by offering legal assistance and support.

Upon his release, Calvin pursued education relentlessly, earning his bachelor's degree, then his law degree, and now, a well-deserved honorary law degree. I had the privilege of representing Calvin, and in 2021, our team successfully secured his exoneration. However, beyond his legal achievements, Calvin's character shines brightly. He embodies patience, wisdom, and a depth of legal knowledge that is truly inspiring.

Calvin's upcoming memoir, "The Jailhouse Lawyer," set to be published by Penguin/Random House in July, promises a narrative that resonates with hope and warmth. John Grisham aptly describes Calvin's story as "so heartwarming and hopeful that it will stay with you for a long time." For those interested, preorders for the book are available here.

For every three books purchased, a copy will be donated to an incarcerated individual. Simply forward your receipt to books@calvinduncan.com to participate in spreading the power of knowledge and hope through Calvin's story.
